PRESENTER

@lauramcgoldrick13

No day is ever the same for Laura.  Currently working as a television presenter for the Herald online and Sky Sports, she is also known for her previous roles on radio, acting and MCing.  She doesn’t like cricket, she loves it, and loves one New Zealand Black Cap in particular – her husband Martin Guptill.  We caught up with Laura before she went diving with sharks to hear more about her story and future plans.

Can you tell us a little bit about what you do?
I do a lot of things but I suppose you’d describe me mainly as a presenter. I do a little bit of journalism, I do some MC’ing, I do some acting but mainly I’m a presenter.

How would your friends describe you?
Fun, I think they’d describe me as fun more than anything else.

"I get to do some things that people only dream of"
Talk us through a day of your life.
No day is ever the same for me. For example yesterday I spent all day at a game of cricket and then tomorrow I’m going swimming with sharks and interviewing some sportsmen after, which sounds horrifying but the interview I’m sure will be fine.

Best thing about what you do?
Meeting new people and interacting with new people. No day is the same so that is quite exciting cause you never really know what’s coming up. I get to do some things that people only dream of so I’m very lucky in that regard.

Favourite person you have interviewed to date?
My husband.

Everyone should visit…
New Zealand, without a doubt.

What is it that you love about cricket?
It’s traditions. It’s stood the test of time. It’s exciting and anything can happen in a game of cricket.

How do you enjoy your days off?
I don’t get many if I was honest but days off I enjoy spending time with family, catching up with what’s been going on with everyone, having a nice glass of wine or a cup of tea or even just going for a walk with mum. That’s what I really like to do.

Guilty pleasure?
Whittakers Sante Bar – Creamy Milk

Do you have any rituals that help you get through a busy work day?
I like to exercise, that’s important to me. Even if I can just get in a half an hour workout or half an hour run that’s something that I really try to do as a way to wind down as sometimes my job can be a bit “holy moly” so it’s nice to be able to do something like that.

Heels or flats?
Heels, 100%

Summer or winter?
Summer

Three things you would never travel without?
Hand sanitiser, baby wipes and a lip gloss.

And finally, what are you most excited about in life right now?
There’s lots of things to be excited about but I guess I had a tough year last year, I lost some pretty special people to me, so the fact that we’re here is something to be excited about I think. That’s what I’m pretty excited about.

"You only get one chance to look after your skin so make sure you do it right"
The skincare step you can’t miss?
The PreCleanse because I wear so much make up throughout the day, sometimes I can have make up put on and taken off at least three times, so it’s important. I like the PreCleanse because it gets in and takes off all the muck and eye make up.

Best skincare tip when traveling lots.
Hydration, drinking lots of water, make sure you take a little bit of your moisturiser on the plane with you. That’s pretty important.

Something you wish you’d known about skincare.
I was really lucky because I was always the only girl in my family, mum and I always had a good relationship so when it came to talking about beauty and things like that mum was always great at saying you only get one chance to look after your skin so make sure you do it right. So it was never a case of what I wish that I had known because she always helped me, I always knew to cleanse and moisturise.

The best skin care tip you’ve received?
Again, going from what mum said, you only get one chance to look after it so if you have to spend a little bit of money then that’s ok because it’s worth it. At the end of the day it’s your skin.

We took Laura through a Face Mapping Skin Analysis for a more in depth look into her skin.

WHAT IS FACE MAPPING?

Face Mapping®, Dermalogica’s unique skin analysis, provides insight into your skin’s past and present, and allows the subsequent prescription of a targeted home care regime for a healthy skin future.
A Dermalogica Professional Skin Therapist uses Face Mapping® to divide the facial landscape into fourteen zones. Each zone is examined to determine where conditions such as congestion, breakouts, dehydration, and/or hyperpigmentation are present.

To get Face Mapped, head in store to see a Dermalogica skin therapist.
