Grayson fitted in a chat with us to share his story and beauty advice.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do?
I’m a make-up artist and hair stylist.

What does a regular day look like for you?
There is no such thing as a regular day. I’m either up really early or staying out super late on shoots and shows so every day is completely different.

How would your friends describe you?
Probably a little bit dry, good sense of humour.

"The secret to a flawless complexion is all in the prep"
What’s your most memorable project to date?
My most memorable project to date would be an underwater photoshoot that I did make-up for.

Three essentials you carry with you to every job?
Primer, Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner and my brushes.

Most annoying thing people do when getting their make-up done?
Look down at their phone.

Instagram filters, for or against?
For.
You’re known for creating the perfect base. What’s your secret to a flawless complexion?
It’s all in the prep. So I like to start with a good cleanse and really nice moisturiser, little bit of primer and minimal foundation. Just what you need.

Contour or highlight?
Both in moderation.

Matte or dewy?
Both, I like playing around with texture.

Current obsession?
Metallics.
What’s the most common beauty mistake you see people make?
Too much. Just too much brows, too much foundation, too much product.

Favourite accounts to follow?

Jen Atkin Hair, Make-up by Mario and Together Journal.

And finally, what’s one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring makeup artist?
Learn how to style hair.
"Most people don’t know their own skin type or they misdiagnose it"
Working as a make-up artist, what’s the biggest thing you have learn't about skin?
Most people don’t know their own skin type or they misdiagnose it so they might say they’re oily when they’re quite dry.

What’s the biggest challenge you find working with different skin types?
Just getting people to know their skin type and not misdiagnose it so I can use the correct products for their skin.

What’s the most common issue you come across when working with models skin?
Models generally have pretty good skin but it goes through a lot so I like to start with a really good cleanse and then a nice hydration.

Favourite Dermalogica Product?
PreCleanse and Multi-Active Toner.

We took Grayson through a Face Mapping Skin Analysis for a more in depth look into his skin.

WHAT IS FACE MAPPING?

Face Mapping®, Dermalogica’s unique skin analysis, provides insight into your skin’s past and present, and allows the subsequent prescription of a targeted home care regime for a healthy skin future.
A Dermalogica Professional Skin Therapist uses Face Mapping® to divide the facial landscape into fourteen zones. Each zone is examined to determine where conditions such as congestion, breakouts, dehydration, and/or hyperpigmentation are present.

To get Face Mapped, head in store to see a Dermalogica skin therapist.
