HEAD OF EDUCATION
Meet Caroline, our Head of Education or as we call her, our walking Dermlaogica encyclopedia. This wonder woman single-handedly educates and supports all of our Dermalogica Skin Therapists nationwide and is the heart and soul of what we do. She is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to skin, with over 30 years experience as a skin therapist and coming up 20 years with Dermalogica. Outside of living and breathing Dermalogica, family is everything to Caroline and you will find her making the most of spending time with her kids before they leave the nest.
Can you tell us a little about yourself and how your career started?
I’ve been very lucky to have been in the professional skin care industry for 30 years
and still I love everything about it. I trained in London and have since then worked in both the UK and New Zealand until I found my dream role with Dermalogica.
What does your role encompass today?
I teach Dermalogica workshops at our head office in Albany, Auckland and also train skin therapists around New Zealand. As part of a tight team, I work alongside our marketing and sales department and we use our combined areas of expertise to support our customers.
What’s the best thing about your role?
Getting to spend my time with other skin therapists - who are the nicest people on the planet.

"I’ve been in the professional skincare industry for 30 years and still love everything about it"
What do you love most about the Dermalogica brand?
I love the support we offer Skin therapists. We have amazing products that you can trust 100% to deliver a result, plus we offer business support and marketing support to help the skin centre be successful. It’s a complete package.
What changes do you see happening in the future of the skincare industry?
I think we will continue to see advanced equipment being incorporated in skin treatments to really power up the results.
How do you relax at the end of the day?
I relax best when I am creating something- it could be trying a new recipe or working on a crafty project. Otherwise I love music and theatre and especially dance.
What words of advice would you give to your younger self?
Wear that red lipstick more often
What are you looking forward to?
The new Dermalogica products that are launching this year! There are some truly amazing things coming up and I can’t wait to have them in my bathroom!
If you could invite three women to a dinner party, who would they be?
Kate Shepherd, Gloria Steinman, Emily Pankhurst – absolute giants whose shoulders all women, stand upon.
"Most common skin care mistake I see is clients not adjusting skin care to meet the changes in environment, particularly between winter and summer."
What are the most common skincare concerns you hear from your clients?
Adult acne is definitely the most common thing I get asked about.
And the most common skincare mistake you see?
Not adjusting your skin care to meet the changes in environment – particularly between winter and summer. It doesn’t require a complete overhaul – it could be something as simple as adding in a hydrating booster during winter to counteract the effect of dry, cold winter weather.
Best skin tip?
Always double cleanse, using a cleansing oil for the first cleanse and then a skin targeted cleanser for the second cleanse.
One Dermalogica product you couldn’t live without?
What’s the latest trend you’re seeing with product innovation?
Products that are addressing the need to protect our skin from airborne toxins and pollutants. Everyone knows about the necessity of protecting your skin from UV rays but more recent research has confirmed that the volatile chemicals we find in traffic pollution and very small particles like dust and pollen in the air around us accelerate skin ageing.
